Meet the Crazy Hare Team
Time to introduce you to The Team. These folks have come together to have some fun and make Crazy Hare the competitive force that it has become.
Harry Klaus, Driver, Mechanic & Crew Chief
Harry Klaus was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In real life, self-employed finishing carpenter living in East St. Paul with wife Lisa and daughters Hillary and Chloe.
“I’ve always enjoyed anything that goes fast: motorcycles, cars, and snowmobiles. I began by racing snowmobiles, then got into Stock Car racing and eventually worked up to the Modified Class. This was a hobby for a few years. My next adventure was racing on dirt; the seed was planted and I bought a used Late Model race car. This kept me busy and was lots of fun too! After five years I sold everything for the opportunity to work as a crew member on another Late Model Team.
I currently own a 125” wheelbase 23T Altered which is powered by an all-aluminum Small Block Chevy on Alcohol fuel. Total weight of the car less driver is 1390 pounds. The horsepower is approximately 750. It travels the 1/4 mile in the seven second rage at 176 MPH and does 60 feet in 1.09 seconds, so it is quite a rush.”
Lisa Klaus, The Boss
As you may have guessed, Lisa is Harry’s wife in real life. She has taken on the role of Manager for the Crazy Hare Team to facilitate smooth running races: providing meals, accommodation arrangements and moral support with more enthusiasm than the energizer bunny. They say behind every great man, is a great woman and while Lisa has a full time job she finds time to also manage Crazy Hare Racing’s social media, sponsor-ships and promo wear.
As the ‘back up girl’, Lisa guides Harry in reverse to the start line after he does his initial burn out. She takes cues from Drew from behind the start line to get Harry into the stage position for the race. It really is a team sport.
Maybe a future Olympic sport?
Drew, Mechanic & Pit Crew
Drew is the man! He is constantly checking the tire pressure, adjusting shocks, fuel levels and assists ‘starting’ by squirting fuel into the butterflies. One of his race roles is that he finds the tacky spot on the track and assists Lisa lining Harry up on the track for the race. Often Drew and Lisa are debating the time and speed factors to help Harry dial in for the next pass.
AJ, Pit Crew
Set up is the beginning of a great race weekend and AJ is there to help. As a member of the Crazy Hare Team, extra hands are always appreciated to help with canopies, tools and fueling the Altered. He brings humour to the team and helps keep a smile on everyone’s face.
Hillary, Photographer & Videographer
With four languages and handy with technology don’t be fooled by her age. An insider perspective of a race family makes Hillary’s talents an asset to the Team. She has shared family pet duties looking after Ruby with her sister at the track.
Chloe, Head Cheerleader
Chloe in real life is part of a Cheer squad. In 2013 she was the top row in a competition that won a trophy at the University of Manitoba. As a family member and fan of the race sport she enthusiastically escorts the car to the line, wishes ‘Papa’ a good race in a pep talk and as with any great motivator, tells Harry he’s done a good job after each race. Sometimes she even ‘backs you’ out the driveway at the family home! Looks like we have a future Back up Girl.
